Tips For Replacing The Rollers On Your Garage Door
ShareDo you have a garage door with rollers that need to be replaced? If so, know that this is a job that you can handle on your own. Here are some tips for replacing those rollers with new ones.
Unmount The Middle And Top Brackets For Easy Replacement
Many of the rollers on your garage door can be replaced with the door in the closed position. The trick to swapping out the rollers is to simply unscrew the brackets that hold the roller in place. All you need is a screwdriver to remove the bracket from the door, and the roller assembly will come right out. You can then put the new roller on the assembly, put it back onto the door, and screw the bracket in place that holds it all together.
Be aware that this technique works on all of the brackets except the bottom one that holds the roller in place. That's because this bracket is attached to a cable, and there is a lot of tension on that cable, so you need to go about changing the roller a different way.
Bend The Track To Slide The Rollers Out
The other trick to removing the rollers is to actually bend the track so that you create a place where you can pop the garage door off the track. What's nice about this technique is that it works for all of the rollers, even the bottom one that is attached to the cable. You'll want to pick a place above the top roller so that all of them can be removed. Simply take some pliers and bend the track back so that it faces towards you, creating a gap where the part of the garage door will come off the track.
With the garage door off the track, you can now slide off the old roller and slide on the new roller. Put the garage door back on the track, move it up, and repeat with the next roller. When finished with one side, bend the track back into the original position so the door does not come off the track.
